If you or a loved one are dealing with cancer, we are here to support you, with the latest treatments and years of experience. Radiotherapy uses high-energy rays to destroy cancer cells by stopping them from growing. The treatment can work on its own, or in combination with other procedures, such as surgery or systemic therapy.
Once your Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) Primary Care physician, or specialist, has referred you for radiation oncology, you will be in the safe hands of our team, who will use state-of-the art radiotherapy machines to provide you with the best possible care.
On your first visit, our radiation oncologists will assess and discuss your treatment options with you. This will help us to create a tailored treatment plan that works best for you and your personal circumstances. This personalized plan will be used by you and your dedicated team to ensure you receive the care that you need throughout your treatment.
We will start with a dry run (simulation), taking images of you that enable us to make custom measurements and molds to ensure the most comfortable positioning for you when you use the machine. We will inform you of each step of the treatment, and make sure that we have your written consent for each procedure and test that we carry out.
During treatment, you will be on a schedule tailored to your needs. This will be reviewed weekly with the entire team to ensure that we continuously monitor your progress. On arrival, you will check in at reception, and discuss your current health with a nurse or technician. You will then be taken to the treatment area to change clothes, and be helped to lie on the table ready for treatment. The therapist will leave the room and monitor you remotely during the session.
The linear accelerator unit will rotate and move during your session – this is a normal part of the process. The technicians will be able to speak to you through a two-way communication device during the treatment. When you are finished, we will help you off the table and escort you back to the changing area to get dressed.
The radiation oncologist and other members of your treatment team will arrange follow-up care at the clinic after your treatment cycles are complete. Information about your treatment will also be shared with your referring physician.
