Research at JHAH

The Research Office

The Research Office at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) was officially established in 2022 to inaugurate a culture of intellectual curiosity within the organization along with supporting researchers in developing world-class innovative and ethical research to significantly contribute to scientific knowledge and advancement in the well-being of our community and healthcare as a whole.

Researchers at JHAH pursue research opportunities to identify and answer important questions in the treatment of certain diseases, improvement in the quality of care provided to our patients in addition to working with the local community to implement preventative interventions.

Activities

JHAH is committed to promoting and developing a vibrant and versatile research culture. The Research Office offers learning and development opportunities for thriving in research, routes to improve and develop your research practice and best practice guidance for research methodology and data analysis.

Collaboration

While the Research Office at JHAH is relatively new, research at JHAH is not. JHAH’s Research Office is committed to structuring the research process and establishing robust partnerships not just with researchers, but with patients, their families, and the community we serve. JHAH has formed valuable relationships and strong bonds with national and international institutions where clinical research is an utmost priority.

These multi-institution, multi-disciplinary collaborations bring distinct expertise to a project. Most critically important scientific issues or innovative technologies are solved from the synergy that results in multi-disciplinary teams working together.

Some of our greatest partnerships are with Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, U.S.A, our own parent company Saudi Aramco, Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University (IAU), King Faisal University, and Al Moosa Health Group.

Education and Training

JHAH’s research office intends to elevate JHAH into a leading institution in research training and education. We offer comprehensive Research courses for our residents and interns, webinars and lectures to our own staff, and an immersive annual Research Boot Camp to those medical students and research professionals interested from outside JHAH.

If you or your organization is interested in collaborating with JHAH on research activities or would like to learn more about the Research Office, please contact us.

Research Integrity

Information for researchers on relevant policies, codes of practice, training, guidance and support on research integrity.

Research Integrity means conducting research in such a way that allows others to have confidence and trust in the methods and the findings of the research. It relates both to the scientific integrity of conducted research and to the professional integrity of researchers.

  • Investigators must avoid fabrications, falsifications, plagiarism and other practices that deviate from accepted scholarly work.
  • Investigators must apply consistency and integrity in obtaining, recording and analyzing data as well as in reporting and publishing results.
  • Investigators should design their research to enhance knowledge in a certain topic and should demonstrate sound methodology, accuracy and maintain the factual integrity of the data.
  • Full-time employees shall declare Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare as their affiliation on any publication produced during their service at JHAH.

Medical research is subject to ethical standards that promote respect for all human beings and protect their health and rights according to the World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki 2000. Therefore, all researchers at JHAH are expected to fully comply with JHAH regulations and guidelines, National Committee for BioEthics’ (NCBE) guidelines, and with the principles of the International Conference on Harmonization – Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) guidelines.

All research studies conducted at JHAH are subject to investigation and audit by the JHAH monitoring team and NCBE. Misconduct often occurs when investigators fail to follow the study protocol, record data inadequately or inaccurately, fabricate and falsify study data, inadequately complete informed consent form, fail to report adverse events or drug reaction, fail to obtain study subject’s consent, fail to notify the IRB of any protocol amendments/ modification, and fail to obtain IRB approval.

Conflicts of interest may arise when a research member’s personal interests interfere with their responsibility and clinical practice. Any conflict of interest is disclosed in the study protocol and subject to the investigators’ supervisors’ approval then the Institution’s Review Board’s final approval.

The Research Office is committed to ensure researchers compliance with policies, procedures, guidelines and IRB requirements and regulations. We provide support and consultations when and wherever is needed by the researchers, this encompasses an oversight of research activities to include but not necessarily limited to guidance and support in proposal development, IRB application completion, statistical analysis, and compliance to the study protocol.
